Lufthansa, the largest airline in Europe and a member of the Star Alliance with United Airlines and Air Canada among others, will begin a non-stop service directly to Orlando, FL on October 30, 2007 from its worldwide hub in Frankfurt, Germany. Lufthansa has eyed Orlando, FL as a possible candidate for a direct path for sometime and has stated that it was the growing business travel industry in Orlando that made the plan make more sense.
The Orlando travel industry will benefit from this service as more travelers can make direct trips to Central Florida. This will also result in more foreign travelers needing a car hire in Orlando when they arrive to the United States. For those foreign travelers, it is recommended that they make an online car hire reservation as far in advance as possible and to check with the policies and procedures for foreign renters before arriving at the car hire counter. Many of these travelers prefer a smaller car hire, such as an Economy or Compact car rental, but others still need the space of a Minivan to provide the room needed for their family on the family holiday.
