How do you classify a local renter?
If the address on your driver’s license is within 65 miles of your pickup location, then you would be considered a local renter. As a local renter, you could only rent economy through fullsize cars, minivans, and midsize SUVs. Unfortunately you could not rent any other car class. Some of our locations do limit mileage for local renters, so be sure to check your location’s policies to see if the mileage limit would apply to you. As a local renter, you would need to pay for the rental using a credit card. If you do not have a departing flight, then you could not pay with a debit card.
What are my rental vehicle responsibilities?
Damage to a Rental Car: A person who rents a car from E-Z Rent A Car is responsible for the safe return of the rental vehicle in the same condition in which it was rented, except for normal wear and tear. Unless prohibited by state law, a renter may be held responsible for all damages to the rental vehicle, including loss of use, should the vehicle be damaged in an incident. This is the case regardless of fault. Whether or not you caused the accident, you may be asked to pay for the damage up to and including the total cost of replacing the vehicle in case of a total wreck or loss. The renter is responsible for checking the vehicle before departure from the rental facility and upon return to the rental facility. In the event that a rental vehicle has been involved in an incident, be sure that any estimated damage to the rental vehicle has been recorded properly before leaving the rental facility.
Rental Car Gasoline: A person who rents a vehicle from E-Z Rent A Car is responsible for returning the rental vehicle with the same amount of gasoline as was in the vehicle upon departure from the rental facility. The renter is responsible for checking the vehicle before departure from the rental facility and upon return to the rental facility. If the renter fails to return the vehicle with the proper level of fuel, a refueling charge needed to return the vehicle to its proper level will be charged to the renter in addition to the estimated rental charges.
Do I need insurance?
Nope! If you are renting from an E-Z Rent A Car location in the United States (excluding Alaska) then you are not required to purchase or provide insurance. While we do offer collision coverage and/or liability insurance (for an extra daily fee), these are completely optional! If you are renting from an international or affiliate location then you might need to purchase their coverage; we recommend reaching out to the affiliate or referring to their local policies for more details.
