About Kahului, HI
Hawaii holds a sterling reputation as a top vacation destination, and with good reason. The warmth and beauty of the islands, combined with their rich culture and many attractions, make them an irresistible place to spend time. When you fly into Maui Kahului Airport, the island of Maui offers endless adventures.
See the City
The city of Kahului is the most populous point on the island of Maui. This is where your Hawaiian journey begins, among the bustling stores and restaurants, including the biggest mall on the island. For a chance to see performances of all kinds, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center is a world-class venue. Combining Hawaiian cultural spotlights with artists from around the world, the center also hosts the Schaefer International Gallery visual art space.
To learn about how life on Maui has changed over the years, you can visit sites such as the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum. The historical site shows how the sugar industry shaped Hawaii over the centuries.
Kahului is 10 minutes away from another downtown area, the character-filled town of Wailuku. Shopping at charming and long-tenured family-run stores on Market Street is a great way to get to know Wailuku. From there, you can visit unique eateries or galleries – or, on the first Friday of the month, you can witness the thriving outdoor festival, Wailuku First Fridays
Enjoy the Island
While the cities of Maui offer fun ways to spend your days, nature is the star attraction on The Valley Isle. Iao Valley State Park is both a natural wonder and a historic site. This is where one of the landmark events in regional history – King Kamehameha the Great’s battle with the Maui people – took place.
Iao Valley is majestic and iconic, and it’s not the only natural site of note on the island. Massive dormant volcano Haleakala Crater rises over 10,000 feet and appears in Hawaiian legends, offering unearthly and breathtaking environments. If you want to see the natural wonders East Maui, the beautiful Hana Highway is the way to get there. This 52-mile stretch of road passes waterfalls and cliffs, and is lined with local food stands and photo opportunity spots.
Hawaii is a state with many amazing places to visit, and Maui is a great place to start.
